Welcome to the island of Cyprus.

The people of Cyprus are warm, friendly and naturally hospitable. It is a genuine pleasure for us to welcome visitors, perhaps because we have been doing it for thousands of years.  As the third largest island in the Mediterranean, with its unique proximity to Europe, Asia and Africa, Cyprus has been coveted, won and lost by countless civilisations over the centuries.  Since the Mycenean Greeks settled here over 3.000 years ago establishing the Greek civilisation on the island, we have seen Phoenicians, Romans, Crusaders, Franks, Venetians and other conquerors who have all left their mark here and contributed to the island's special character.

Aphrodite, mythological goddess of beauty, was born in the foam of our warm seas.  Yet on the same shores St. Paul was to introduce Christianity by converting the Roman Governor in 45AD

Cyprus has great beauty and endless variety.  Golden beaches and rugged coastline are contrasted by the impressive backdrop of unusual mountain ranges.  Greek temples, Roman remains, Byzantine churches and Crusader's castles inspire fascinating excursions.

Cosmopolitan towns reflect modern tastes, while picturesque hillside villages illustrate a simple way of life unchanged for hundreds of years.  The inhabitants are quick to say 'kopiaste', inviting you to sit, eat and drink with them.  Memorable meals linger long in the mind and the delightful experience of a typical 'meze' eaten at leisure under the vines is one to treasure.

The island basks under an abundance of sunshine every year, the hot Summer days tempered by cool sea breezes and the Winter months warmed by a gentle sun.  The pine-clad Troodos mountains, so refreshing in contrast to the Summer heat, are magically transformed in Winter by a fine covering of snow.  In Spring time the island assumes an unimaginable beauty as a profusion of wild flowers form a yellow carpet, dotted with brilliant reds and blues.

TRANSPORTATION

Even though Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean distances between cities are not too long.  A good road system and comfortable air conditioned taxis, minibuses and coaches make travelling easy.  Transfers can be organized from any place on the island for individuals and groups with or without guide.

CAR HIRE

For visitors wishing to make their individual way around the island, driving is most advisable.  Fairly good surfaced roads complying with international traffic requirements, link the towns and the various villages, and four-land motorways connect the capital, Nicosia with the coastal towns of Limassol and Larnaca and Paphos.

Visitors can drive in Cyprus, as long as they are in possession of either a valid international driving license, or their National driving license, provided this is valid for the class of vehicle they wish to drive.  By law it is compulsory to insure against full third party, however the full comprehensive insurance (CDW) is advisable.  Traffic moves on the left hand side of the road.

The choice of available cars is big and meets every taste and desire;  starting from the basic 800cc car that is spacious enough for three people and also strong enough to cover all of Cyprus.
