For
visitors wishing to make their individual way around the island, driving
is most advisable. Fairly good surfaced roads complying with
international traffic requirements, link the towns and the various
villages, and four-land motorways connect the capital, Nicosia with the
coastal towns of Limassol and Larnaca and Paphos.
Visitors
can drive in Cyprus, as long as they are in possession of either a valid
international driving license, or their National driving license, provided
this is valid for the class of vehicle they wish to drive. By law it
is compulsory to insure against full third party, however the full
comprehensive insurance (CDW) is advisable. Traffic moves on the
left hand side of the road.
The
choice of available cars is big and meets every taste and desire;
starting from the basic 800cc car that is spacious enough for three people
and also strong enough to cover all of Cyprus.
