HIKING

The Akamas Peninsula to the north west of Paphos is a unique area, relatively large and unspoilt, with remarkably diverse features in vegetation, wildlife, geology, beautiful landscapes and coasts, and with a rich historical and cultural heritage. In this region there are two trails called the Aphrodite & Adonis Trails.  The famous baths of Aphrodite is the start and end point for both trails. The two trails also have a common part (Baths of Aphrodite to Pyrgos tis Rigaenas) which is approximately 2.5km long. The total length of each trail is approximately 7.5km and the walk time varies from 2 to 4 hours. Both of these trails are self-guided. You will notice a number of wooden signs along the trails which refer to points of interest. At Polis there are hotels and a camping site for those wishing to stay in the area for a few days.

The Troodos mountain range is made of a series of mountain peaks starting from the villages of Panayia and Pomos of Paphos district in the west all the way to Stavrovouni of Larnaca district in the east including the Limassol Forest. Troodos also hosts many indigenous species which cannot be found elsewhere in Cyprus.  The walker can see the natural centuries-old forest of black pine and the Troodos cypress. In this area there are four nature trails namely the "Artemis" - Khionistra (Olympus) circular trail, "Atalanta" - Troodos Post Office - Chrome mine, "Kaledonia" - Kryos Potamos - Kaledonia Falls & "Persephone" - Makria Kontarka. All four nature trails are found in a state forest, which, because of its particular importance, is classified as a National Forest Park, while some smaller areas with sensitive biotopes were chosen as Nature Reserves.
